Custom Design Process Story One
The Nelson Motorcycle Club’s

“Top of The South Island MX Championship Trophy”

         Customer sketch
STAGE ONE
(what they did)
  • Intial contact was made 2-3 months before the championship was to be held
  • Told us us they had a tight budget and wanted to see what we could do
  • They needed 39 trophies in total (1st, 2nd and 3rd in 13 catorgories)
  • Sent us a few sketckes of what they would like in a trophy
  • Wanted to incorporate a pair of MX (motor-cross) riding goggles to give the trophies a MX feel
STAGE TWO
(we got back to them…)
  • Working with one of the designs we felt would work best; we outlined a manufacturing and costing scenario. Describing to the motorcycle club what sort of award we could come up with and what we needed to move forward on the design process.
STAGE THREE
  • We produced a 1st Prototype and Shipped it to the customer.
  • They thought it was good trophy, but it didn’t really “sparkle” for them and there wasn’t enough difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd for them to give as an award
  • They came back and thought that adding colour to the trophies would be a good idea and also wanted those colours to match the colours of the companies that manufacture the MX bikes (Yamaha Blue, Kawasaki Green, Honda Red.)
  • We then ran an intial production of a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd set with individualised metallic engraving. Which was then shipped off, they were happy with what we supplied
  • Production commenced on the remaining trophies and they were shipped off a few days later
(the trophies arrived 1 month early)
